Serene Space

Serene space was designed on top of an existing building, to help meet our client’s requirement which is to enjoy some time away from mundane activities and get replenished. The design was structured in a way to allow the space breathe more comfortably amidst the chaos it is surrounded by.

Our Client Mr.Mohan is an exemplary character, who loves calm, peaceful environment, which helps him reflect on his own thoughts and life goals. His son Ar.Santhosh wanted to create a space which resonates his father’s ideology. We took this as an opportunity to bring in theoretical knowledge in to reality. We added details to the design with budget constrain in our minds.

The space designed reflects a traditional chettinad architecture element with other conventional ideas. The central space, as the entrance opens up welcomes with arched walls on southern side and arched opening to bedroom on northern side. The walls on East and west are mud plastered and floors are of aathangudi tiles, which makes the space comparatively cooler.

The narrow balcony with circular skylights provides enormous light and the space is well ventilated. The roof of the central space is worked out with pot filler and bedroom with clay tile filler slabs. The Staircase core acts as passive wind tower with respect to ground floor residential area.

Serene Space holding up to activities of yoga, meditation, reading and resting would bring in joy and peace to the user.
