The Casteless Collective

The Casteless Collective is a Chennai based music band which consists of 18 members who are a mix of Gaana, hip-hop, rock, rap, and folk artists. They are built on the core idea of being vocal about the political oppression that they were subjected to from antiquity. The band also empowers people of the community to be an artist and to strongly talk about their philosophy amidst an elitist society. As a band, they carry the teachings of B.R. Ambedkar and Periyar and wish to bring about more awareness and discussion on caste oppression that seems to continue to prevail in this "modern world".

Chennai being a culturally tangled place, it is extremely important for us to work with a band like The Casteless Collective. Projects like these make us realise the importance of the work we do. This is a collaborative project with Saptarshi Das, a Graphic Designer. The design process began with key words brought to the table after doing a complete research on the band and their motive. Careful creative choices were made to chisel out the perfect visual identity the band wished to put out. Graphic elements were developed according to a story line that reflects the core theme of the band. The colours used and the treatment of the visuals were tailored to fit the requirement of the idea behind the collective.
